Reception & screening of the animated feature film “Where is Anne Frank?” and interview with Mrs. Donarski, friend of the Frank family
On the sidelines of the Anne Frank exhibition at the Center for Jewish History in New York, the Consulate organized several screenings of this 2021 Luxembourg co-production, including two for UNIS students. The film follows the journey of Kitty, Anne Frank's imaginary friend to whom the famous diary was dedicated. Kitty comes to life in the present day, in the Amsterdam house where Anne took refuge with her family. Searching for her best friend, Anne Frank, whom she believes is still alive, Kitty witnesses the Frank family's final months during the Holocaust. Kitty makes new friends while inspiring a wave of modern social justice for refugees. Before the screening in front of nearly 40 members of the Luxembourg community, the Consul General questioned Mrs. Mary Lou ("Malou") Donarski, an 88-year-old American of Luxembourgish origin, about her escape from the Nazis and her wait for a visa for more than 10 months before finally being able to enter the USA.
