Strengthening Bonds: HRH the Grand Duke Bridges Diplomacy and Community in New York

The official visit of HRH the Grand Duke to New York concluded on a high note, leaving a lasting mark on the diplomatic stage and within our diaspora. Accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Xavier Bettel, the journey began with a deeply moving tribute at the National September 11 Memorial & Museum. Standing at Ground Zero, the Luxembourg delegation laid a wreath to honor the victims of the tragedy and celebrate the tremendous bravery of the first responders, reaffirming Luxembourg’s enduring and unshakeable solidarity with the American people.
 

The diplomatic core of the trip took place at the United Nations Headquarters, where the Head of State delivered an address to the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly. Speaking powerfully on behalf of the Grand Duchy, he issued an urgent call to global leaders to restore eroding trust, reinforce multilateralism, and actively elevate the voices of younger generations in shaping our global future. This momentum carried into a series of high-level bilateral meetings on the sidelines, including productive exchanges with UN Secretary-General António Guterres and King Abdullah II of Jordan.

The grand finale of this successful working visit brought the delegation back to the community at the House of Luxembourg. Co-hosted by the Consulate General of Luxembourg in New York and the Permanent Mission of Luxembourg to the United Nations, an exclusive reception brought together over 120 compatriots and close friends of the Grand Duchy. The vibrant gathering served as the perfect celebration of Luxembourg’s active presence in the United States, giving the diaspora a proud and memorable opportunity to connect directly with HRH the Grand Duke and Minister Bettel.
