ECONOMIC MISSION – EAST COAST – March 23-28, 2014
H.R.H. Crown Prince Guillaume and H.E. Minister Étienne Schneider on trade mission to Canada and East Coast of the United States
In the context of promoting Luxembourg as gateway for foreign companies, H.R.H. Crown Prince Guillaume and Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of the Economy, Étienne Schneider completed a trade mission to Canada and the East Coast of the United States from March 24th thru 28th, 2014.
During this mission they successively visited Bolton (Ontario/Canada), Troy, Auburn Hills and Plymouth (Michigan), Akron and Avon Lake (Ohio), Wilmington (Delaware), New York (New York) and as final point Jersey City (New Jersey). During the various stops the Crown Prince and the Minister met with the top management of large industrial corporations that have been present in the Grand Duchy for many years and maintain their regional headquarters and/or substantial production facilities there, among them Husky Injection Molding Systems, Delphi Automotive, Guardian Industries, Goodyear, DuPont de Nemours, Plastipak as well as PolyOne.
Minister Étienne Schneider confirmed towards these companies, which are important industrial employers in Luxembourg, the firm intention of the Government to continue the efforts aimed at maintaining an economic environment conducive to the development of their activities. At the same time he emphasized his determination to promote a policy of dialogue with the private sector ultimately encouraging future investments in Luxembourg.
The corporations visited all welcomed the open-mindedness and the positive attitude they encounter in Luxembourg, the commitment of the country’s political leaders and the quality of its workforce. Minister Étienne Schneider stated: «The majority of decision-makers we met confirmed their intention to maintain the level of activity of production in Luxembourg, to even grow their capacities, allowing for the creation of more jobs. The Government will increase its efforts to encourage the economic development, particularly through the support of research & development and through the improvement of the regulatory framework».
At the end of the visit the Minister of the Economy met the management of Mana Fine Arts, a global leader in the storage and logistics of pieces of art, based in Jersey City (New Jersey). At this occasion, Shai Baitel, Vice President for Strategy at Mana Fine Arts and David Arendt, Managing Director at the LuxFreeport, signed a cooperation agreement aimed at the extension of Mana in Europe via the Freeport in Luxembourg.
